Firewire Dominator Surfboard Review

For quite some time I have been in the market for a new shortboard that would surf well in the smaller southeastern North Carolina conditions. I was looking for a board that would be easy to surf in small 1-3 foot mush as well as head high hurricane swells.  After talking to a few people and doing some research I finally decided to purchase a 6’ 0” Firewire Dominator with the Rapidfire technology… and so we bring you the Firewire Dominator Review

This board is amazing in so many ways. The design and materials used in to creating this board have made it probably one of the best versatile boards ever, in my opinion. If you have never really looked at one the first thought that goes through people’s minds is: it looks like a beginners board, its fat and wide and probably won’t perform well, or its not made for advanced surfing; however, most of that is not necessarily true. Let me break down the design aspects of the board. The Dominator is a generally thicker, wider board with not a lot of rocker. My 6’0” is 20.5” wide by 2.5” thick, but these stats don’t really show how the board is constructed (If you look at the two pictures posted you will see just how big this board really is). The wide point of the board is farther back to keep the nose thin which will help turning quickly and sharply. The top deck is flat and the rocker doesn’t begin until up close to the nose while the bottom of the board has a smooth slight rocker which helps keeps the back of the board in the water and floating. I prefer ride this board with a quad fin set up to keep it fast and snappy. Overall the board is basic and doesn’t have a true high performance design to it, but it really blew my mind when I first used it.

I’m not exactly sure how Dan Mann did it, but he knew what he was doing when he designed this board. This board is fast and very responsive! I am amazed how well it surfs in small conditions. It paddles so fast and catching smaller waves is hardly a problem anymore. It turns on a dime and can really maintain a high speed when on an open face. Words really can’t describe how awesome this board really is, its loads of fun in all kinds of conditions. I will recommend this board to beginners as well as advanced surfers if they’re looking for a casual, but fun surfboard. So if you are ever in the market for a new shortboard, go by Sweetwater Surf Shop at Wrightsville beach and check out the Firewire Dominator. It will make you dominate in all kinds of waves!
